About the project – Horrornauta’s horror blog

horrornauta timeline

Horrornauta is a horror blog that has evolved from a previous personal project, initially launched with lightness in 2019 under the name “Spooktopus.” Soon, it will celebrate nearly five years of activity.

The original project was a horror blog exclusively dedicated to horror cinema: disturbing, strange, bizarre films, a bit disgusting, and so on. Yes, I know I haven’t covered a vast number of films, but I am extremely selective when it comes to featuring content here. There must be a spark to inspire me to say, “YES, THIS IS IT, I’M WRITING AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT FKWEKFHW.” So, you understand that it’s a challenging search.

Over time, I have “explored” the horror theme in various other areas: I had come across some books that were perhaps creepy enough but didn’t “fit” the blog’s theme (films, specifically), so I moved on. Then, more recently, the genius struck: I started researching and visiting creepy places around, such as catacombs, churches, underground spaces, mainly in my hometown, Naples. At that point, the need to talk about and write about it became a bit more urgent: I wanted to share this stuff.

Around February 2022, I decide that it’s time for a renewal: I no longer wanted to limit myself only to films; my project was expanding a bit more. Horrornauta is born, from the combination of horror and the suffix -nauta, meaning an explorer/navigator of horror. The blog’s symbol is Jerry, the little monster in the logo. Born by chance and kept for pleasure: Jerry is funny, despite representing a blog with quite controversial themes. However, it reflects how these themes are treated, always with a pinch of irony and lightness, hence the blog’s motto: humorous journeys into the horrifying and unsettling.

Horrornauta is also present on social media, but it’s a tough job to maintain a good quality standard of content and post frequently. Therefore, it’s challenging to find me very active, but only because it’s damn hard to find beautiful things and share them in catchy formats, and I don’t want to post fluff just to please the algorithm.

About the author

I am Lorena, and I infinitely love this web space of mine, where I am free to do whatever I want, write about what I love, and make it stylistically what I want, without compromises.

I was born in 1997 and landed on the web when forums like forumcommunity and forumfree were at their peak. They immediately gave me the hint that I wanted something similar, a space to share my passions. I evolved from forums to websites, and today I am here.

Special thanks to all the people I bothered for the logo, the name, the template, the domain extension, the redirects, the themes, the pages, the motto, the icons, the colors… (and so on).

I like unusual horror, the kind that gets under your skin and scares you because it's realistic. The anxiety of watching something that, all things considered, could easily appear in the real world. Email me at hello@horrornauta.it.
